Your Input Needed! Wayfinding Signage Project Meetings & Survey

UPDATE: The Westside meeting scheduled for March 7th has been canceled and will NOT be held at the Google Campus in Venice. The meeting will be re-scheduled for March 14th. We’ll have a new meeting place secured early next week.

The first in a series of community workshops to discuss the implementation of a Metro funded bicycle wayfinding project will be starting tomorrow – Saturday, February 26. You can attend the workshop at two different locations and times: Van Nuys, 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM and LACMA West, 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM. These two workshops (and two others on March 3rd) will be held in conjunction with LA/2B’s Think Labs – meeting locations and times can be found in the chart below or by clicking here. In addition to the LA/2B dates, we will also be holding two additional workshops on February 28 and March 14 March 7. The March 7th Westside meeting will take place at the Google Campus in Venice, at 340 Main St. Venice Beach, CA 90291. Please RSVP by emailing Nate Baird at Find out what’s in store at the workshops below the fold.

Wayfinding Workshop Schedule

LADOT plans on prioritizing wayfinding signage implementation along Bicycle Friendly Street (BFS) facilities in the five year implementation plan, as well as at key locations and facilities that could use some extra signage as needed/appropriate. You can find out more about wayfinding signage – including a best practices guide from Oakland, CA – in a previous wayfinding post.

Wayfinding Workshops

Bicycle Coordinator Nate Baird will provide a brief run-through of our Bicycle Wayfinding Signage project. Attendees will then be asked to help us identify specific routes and intersections where wayfinding signage would be most useful. Below is a diagram from the 2012 CA Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) that provides a good example of how wayfinding signage will be applied in the City of Los Angeles.

We will also be looking for input on potential specific destinations, as well as categories of destinations, that you would like to see on our bicycle guide signs. Expect to see large maps of the city along with markers and post it notes so that we can record your input. We’re looking forward to hearing all your great ideas!

Online Survey

Our interns are also hard at work developing an online survey for those of you who can’t make it to the workshops. The online survey will allow you to input up to five intersections and to provide an accompanying list of destinations that you think would be appropriate. Look for the survey to go live in the coming days.
