Last October, we wrote about our sneak preview of LADOT’s new Commuter Express buses. At a press conference this morning, outside the Walt Disney Concert Hall at 1st and Grand, the new buses made their official debut. Councilmembers Jan Perry and Bill Rosendahl joined LADOT General Manager Jaime De La Vega to celebrate the new buses.
Under Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Transportation Initiative, 95 new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses will be added to the city’s transit vehicle fleet. We were happy to showcase the bike capacity of the new buses , which can accommodate up to three bicycles–a 50% increase over the common two capacity bike rack. For more information about bikes on LADOT transit vehicles, please visit the LADOT transit website (and check out their Commuter Express system map). More photos from this morning are available in our New Commuter Express bus Flickr set, which includes a video of the official farewell to the old buses (below).
